MEDICAL AND HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE PROJECTS
All of our military veteran members have been deployed to support humanitarian assistance missions in domestic and international conflict, near conflict, and disaster zones, with experience spanning from the 1980s to the present day. We have also conducted humanitarian assistance and military aid projects in conflict and near-conflict zones.
PROJECT BAWASH

PROJECT DETAILS
Situation: The medical crisis caused by ISIS overwhelmed regional medical capacity and supplies in Kurdistan, Iraq.
Task: To resolve the issue by directly or indirectly providing aid and increasing capacity for victims.
Action: Provided advisory, analysis, and influence to increase medical aid and medical surge capacity in Yezidi and other regions of Kurdistan.
Result: Our recommendations led to the creation of multiple clinics and triage centers, and increases in medical supplies for clinics.
HELP SAVE HANIN SOLO

PROJECT DETAILS
An awareness and support project aimed towards securing assistance for a young, female Yezidi IDP in Kurdistan who is suffering from hereditary medical conditions and other associated complications due to lack of treatment.
Situation: Young Hanin Solo and her family are from the Yezidi community, and became internally displaced persons (IDPs) after ISIS drove them from their village just outside Shangal, Iraq. This little girl is shunned and bullied in her camp because she suffers from ichthylosis, a rare medical skin condition.
Task: To increase awareness of her situation in order to get her the international medical treatment require to relieve her condition.
Action: Provided intermittent medical care and relief; awareness campaign; letter writing campaign to Canadian PM.
Result: Obtained a passport for her, and provided intermittent – but not lasting – basic medical care and supplies.
The Ask: Funding – appropriate medical treatment is still required.
Supporting RESEARCH STUDY INTO DE-RADICALIZATION STRATEGIES

PROJECT DETAILS
The 1st NAEF supported a doctoral candidate conducting face-to-face interviews with PVE-CVE practitioners in Europe, Middle East, and Africa.
The doctoral research study investigated successful strategies used by global leaders for reducing radicalization in vulnerable populations.
The interviews focused on garnering global leaders’ insights, knowledge, experience, understanding and processes regarding counter and preventative violent extremism. The research study aimed to identify and assess which programs were successful and which were not; define best practices; identify key factors for success; and note which measurements are most effective.
